About the Texas Rangelands Site

Welcome to the Texas AgNIC Rangelands web site! This site is being developed by a team at Texas A&M University in College Station in collaboration with the Texas A&M Library, University of Arizona, Western Rangelands Partnership and Agriculture Network Information Center.

We are a partner in the AgNIC Alliance, which is a national effort to create an electronic network that will provide seamless access to distributed sources of agricultural information, subject area specialists, and other resources in a manner in which the physical location of these resources is transparent to the user. Agricultural information as used here is defined as that produced by basic, applied, and developmental research, extension, and teaching activities in the food, agricultural, renewable natural resources, forestry, and physical and social sciences.

Mission
Our mission is to provide electronic access to the full scope of information in the field of rangelands and rangeland management to people everywhere and of all knowledge levels by collecting, creating, evaluating, and organizing relevant resources.

Scope of Subject
"Rangelands are a type of land, not a use of land. They are not urban land and they are not agricultural land. They do include some forests, some woodlands and other vegetation types not usually associated with range, but primarily, rangelands are grasslands, shrublands and savannas, and grasslands with scattered trees and shrubs."
