Detailed Admissions Process
Requirements for admission to the ESSM graduate program are as follows:
- The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is required. (The biology section of the GRE is not required for admission to our program.)
- Three (3) letters of reference in support of your graduate application to be sent directly as a PDF to:

International students may be required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) exam, and score 550 or better, prior to admission to Texas A&M University. The TOEFL may be waived if the student’s GRE-verbal score is greater than 450. International students who wish to be eligible for graduate teaching assistantships are required to take the English Language Proficiency Examination and obtain a score of at least 80 on each module. This exam is offered on campus each semester.
Self-supported students considering the MS degree, non-thesis option, should contact, Heather Haliburton (979-862-8993; hhaliburton@ag.tamu.edu ), for assistance in locating a faculty advisor.
Graduate students on a departmental assistantship are required to assist faculty in teaching one or more undergraduate labs during their program. A minimum combined score of 950 on the verbal and quantitative sections of the GRE and a minimum 3.0 GPR is required to qualify for a departmental teaching assistantship. Assistantships also include health insurance and an out-of-state tuition waiver.
Texas A&M University, with its student enrollment of over 48,000, is located in the combined municipalities of Bryan and College Station (population about 100,000). Bryan/College Station is located about 90 miles northwest of Houston, 90 miles east of Austin and 170 miles south of Dallas/Ft. Worth. To apply, applicants must mail a completed application, official transcripts from all universities and/or colleges attended, Graduate Record Exam (GRE) scores, Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score and application fee -- $50 for domestic applicants and $75 for international applicants -- to the following address.

Applications will not be processed by the TAMU Admissions Office until the application fee and all requested information -- GRE, TOEFL, transcripts, etc. -- has been received.
Applications cannot be reviewed and are not considered complete without all necessary information: transcripts, GRE scores, TOEFL score, three letters of recommendation, resume and statement of purpose.
