Thank you for your interest in graduate study in the Department of Ecosystem Science and Management (ESSM) at Texas A&M University! We have an outstanding faculty who are recognized around the world for their expertise. Our graduates are successful in their fields following completion of their studies in ESSM at Texas A&M.

ESSM offers graduate degrees at both the master's and doctoral levels. The thesis-based Master of Science and Ph.D. degrees are designed for research or academic careers. Non-thesis master's degrees provide advanced training in natural resource conservation and management for those who seek a professional career outside of research.

In ESSM it will be possible for you to specialize in one or more of these research areas:

  • Ecosystem Science • biogeochemistry, ecohydrology, global change ecology, landscape ecology, ecological restoration, ecophysiology
  • Ecosystem Management • forest management, rangeland management, watershed management, natural resource economics and policy, human dimensions of ecosystem management
  • Genetics, Systematics, Evolution • genetics, molecular biology, genomics, population genetics, tree improvement, plant systematics and evolution
  • Spatial Sciences • geographic information systems, remote sensing, spatial analysis and statistics
