Mushinski  Awarded Best Student Presentation at Ecology and Evolution Symposium

Ryan Mushinski, a Ph.D. student in the Department of Ecosystem Science and Management, received First Place for his oral presentation at the Houston Regional Ecology and Evolution Student Symposium held at University of Houston on May 6, 2016.  The title of his presentation was “Forest Harvest Leads to Decade-Scale Alterations in Pine Forest Soil Fungal Dynamics”.  Co-authors on the presentation were Dr. Tom Boutton from ESSM, and Dr. Terry Gentry from the Department of Soil and Crop Sciences.  This symposium brought together faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and undergraduate and graduate students from UH, Texas A&M University (College Station and Galveston), Rice University, and Baylor College of Medicine.  The meeting covered a broad range of topics including ecosystem ecology and climate change, community ecology, experimental evolution, population genetics, and computational biology.
