(1978) in Biology/Chemistry from Angelo State University and his Ph.D. (1983) in Range Management from the University of Wyoming. He came to the Texas AgriLife Research and Extension Center in 1984 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 1990.
His research expertise is in ruminant nutrition, grazing management, livestock-wildlife interactions, animal behavior, and beef cattle production. Current research emphasis is on temporal and spatial patterns of diet selection, nutrient intake and utilization of beef cattle grazing semi-arid rangeland. Concurrent research focuses on the interrelationships of prescribed burning for woody plant control and beef cattle production. Integrated grazing and fire strategies to improve range condition and carrying capacity are being developed for Prosopis dominated rangeland.
