Dr. Briske is a Professor with the Department of Rangeland Ecology and Management at Texas A&M University. He received a BA (1974) in Botany from North Dakota State University and a Ph.D. (1978) in Range Science from Colorado State University. He joined the faculty at Texas A&M University in 1978 as an Assistant Professor; he was promoted to Associate Professor in 1984 and to Professor in 1991. Dr. Briske's teaching activities include Range Plant Ecophysiology and Plant - Herbivore Dynamics. Dr. Briske's research program addresses the physiological ecology, developmental morphology, and population ecology of perennial grasses with special emphasis on grassland responses to herbivory. Major goals of his research program are to 1) enhance our mechanistic understanding of grassland ecology at the plant and population scales, 2) provide information necessary to link individual plant and population processes to higher scales of grassland organization, and 3) synthesize ecological information to evaluate current strategies and concepts influencing conservation and management decisions on rangelands.
